The collection of Mrs. Paul Mellon on view at Sotheby's includes a watercolor by Ludwig Bemelmans (of Madeline fame) depicting an early 20th-century monument to Chinese immigrants in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and early 19th-century Chinese export settees designed to appeal to European tastes.
